Transit Point @ Yio Chu Kang (TP@YCK) is a transitional shelter that provides temporary accommodation and social work intervention to displaced individuals who have exhausted all other means of accommodation. Residents work with our social work professionals to address their needs and develop intervention plans towards achieving long-term and stable housing.
In 2020, as the pandemic worsened, Singapore entered into the Circuit Breaker period, calling all non-essential workers to stay at home. This brought the issue of homelessness quickly into the forefront, and the government responded by leasing 78 public housing units to the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) to house around 300 rough sleepers. This initiative would be called "The Innkeeper's Project", and New Hope CS stepped forward and volunteered to take charge of operations of the new shelter while other social service agencies handled the case management. With help from volunteers and community partners, the shelter was operational within 10 days, and 317 rough sleepers would be housed over the course of 2020.
Originally slated to last just 3 months, The Innkeeper's Project was extended to end-2020 as a pandemic-hit economy meant many residents faced considerable difficulties in securing long-term stable housing. An agreement was eventually made with the government to open a new Transitional Shelter at Spooner Road to continue housing and supporting our residents beyond 2020.
In 2024, the shelter was moved to a new site at Yio Chu Kang.
TP@YCK has a maximum occupancy of around 120.
